How to reach San Marino

The official language is Italian but the great influx of tourists and widespread international relations, have such an importance that the ordinary man in the street, if he is working in contact with the general public, can usually speak at least one other foreign language, French, English or German.

Especially among the older generation there is a lively local dialect which largely recalls that spoken in Romagna but which bas certain inflections from the nearby Marche region.

Official Religion:  Roman Catholic

The Italian lira is normally used.  After a 34-year interval, in 1972 San Marino once more began coining her own currency and has minted various coins in San Marino lira which are very much in demand as collectors' pieces.  From 1974 onwards, gold coins have also been minted as legal tender within the territorial boundaries.
